God’s Chisel

It was an awesome series! It’s great to see how God uses imperfect people that remain faithful to fulfill His plans.

As much as possible, as a group, review the story of Joseph and recap some of the takeaways you can cherish in your life (use this timeline to help you retell the story - https://totallyhistory.com/joseph-timeline/)

In this last act of the story, how did God use hardships - THE FAMINE, in their case - to chisel Joseph’s family? (hint: “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world....No doubt pain as God's megaphone is a terrible instrument; it may lead to final and unrepented rebellion. But it gives the only opportunity the bad man can have for amendment. it removes the veil; it plants the flag of truth within the fortress of the rebel soul.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pai)

What is a clear sign that Joseph’s brothers realized they have sinned? (Hint: Genesis 42:21, 44:26) - Extra reading: “The first step toward activating a seared conscience is taking responsibility for one’s own personal guilt. The brothers did not blame their father for being passive. They did not blame their brother Joseph for being proud or arrogant or favored. They did not diminish the wrong by saying they were too young to know any better. They used the right pronoun when they agreed together, “We are responsible! There is no one else we can blame” (Chuck Swindoll, Joseph: A Man of Integrity and Forgiveness)

Is there anything that is hard for you to let go? How can it become an idol to you? Are you ready for God chiseling it away from your life?

What areas in your life you still don’t act like Jesus? (Hint: Look for words like - “I want” “I prefer” “I wish” = see if phrases like “Jesus prefers” “Jesus wants” “Jesus wishes” fits to it

End your meeting reading Philippians 1:6:

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Some times are gonna be hard, but be at good cheer, He’s overcome the world and He will bring it all about in your life.

Pray with boldness and confidence to Him who holds you up!
