Statement on Marriage, Gender & Sexuality
Pontiac Bible Church recognizes that there are and will be persons who experience gender dysphoria and/or gender confusion (Romans 2:26-27). Such experiences can be very complex and emotional to work through and, for some, incredibly personal, painful, shame-burdening & confusing. Such individuals can be mistakenly convinced that gender and biological sex are entirely separate. When this happens, an individual’s gender merely represents one’s true, inner self, even if it is inconsistent with one’s physical sex. Unfortunately, this avenue of reasoning eliminates the distinctions between a man and a woman that God Himself created and called good (Genesis 1:27). As such, the view of biological sex and gender as separate entities is contrary to the divine reality of our true, God-given human nature. Pontiac Bible Church desires to be a loving environment while upholding the truth of God’s Word and His design made in His image.
A person experiencing gender dysphoria or confusion is not excluded from Pontiac Bible Church life or activities simply because he or she is experiencing gender dysphoria, gender confusion or gender attraction. However, those persons who choose to openly express disagreement with Pontiac Bible Church’s teaching on matters of sex, sexuality, and/or gender in an inappropriate way or in a way that is disparaging to any aspect or anyone associated with Pontiac Bible Church, will be subject to restrictions on his or her participation in the life of Pontiac Bible Church, and in appropriate cases, to ongoing discipleship both for that person’s own good and/or the good of others. Pontiac Bible Church will uphold the truths and principles of God’s Word while seeking to walk alongside those experiencing gender dysphoria and/or confusion. Jesus provided a model for us to walk with those in need and to do it in truth and grace. Though these Biblical guidelines must be adhered to, it will not affect our love and desire to love and serve those created in the image of God and for His glory.

Whether a minor or adult, nicknames shall not be used if that nickname’s purpose is to a)obscure or contradict the person’s God-given biological sex, b)Or, promote the idea that one’s gender is different or fluid disregarding one’s God-given biological sex.
